ALTERED HOMES

Installation (Drawings on methacrylate, sound and light), 2023

Altered Homes is the visible outcome of a workshop held in May 2023—an initiative launched in the Carabanchel District (Madrid) to collectively reflect, through a class- and gender-conscious perspective, on the experience of inhabiting contemporary domestic spaces. Recognizing, drawing, and narrating one's own home served as the starting point for these gatherings, grounding each participant’s experience in a specific location within the district.

The exhibition presents some of the materials generated throughout this process. Hanging from the ceiling are drawings that reflect on the relationship with the internal structure of the home, including partitions, doors, and windows, as well as elements that define the use of space, such as furniture and household appliances. These interact with a sound piece created by the participants, in which they recreate domestic sounds using their own bodies. Together, drawing, sound, and the body become tools for an embodied reflection that challenges the invisible structures shaping people’s relationship with domestic space.
